Predicting cereal cover crop biomass using shoot length in California vegetable systems

چکیده
To better understand cover crop benefits and receive nitrogen scavenging credits for cropping, farmers need simple robust methods of predicting biomass production. A new regulation focused on improving management over 200,000 ha irrigated land in the central coast California motivated us to evaluate if shoot length rye (Secale cereale L., ‘Merced’) triticale (× Triticosecale Wittmack, ‘Pacheco’) could predict biomass. Field samples (n = 162) 126) were collected at various developmental growth stages from organic conventional vegetable farms planting date trials, across multiple soil types, times, row spacings, plant densities. Main was well-correlated with oven-dry (r2 0.87) 0.88). This provides beyond a simple, method estimate

Agronomic research suggests Australian farmers may increase wheat yields by 13 to 47% and reduce risk of crop failures by sowing crops earlier than is currently practiced. This study investigated the potential to use remote sensing to assist in evaluating changes in farmer sowing date practices in response to research recommendations, using study paddocks in the southern Australian cropping reg...

A finely dispersed cell suspension was obtained from embryogenic calli of two genotypes of pearl millet (Pennisetum americanum L. Mil cereal). Protoplasts isolated from both cell suspensions divided and produced globular embryoids and calli. On an agar medium, the embryoids were induced to form albino shoots or albino plantlet- like structures

A cover crop management trial in butternut squash was planted at the Forgotten Harvest Ore Creek Farm (9153 Major Rd, Fenton, MI 438430) in a Miami loam soil with a 02% grade. The objectives were to determine how yields following a cereal rye cover crop were affected by three tillage systems and three at-plant fertilizer treatments in a split-plot Randomized Complete Block Design with four repl...
متن کاملUsing Arabidopsis to study shoot branching in biomass willow.
The success of the short-rotation coppice system in biomass willow (Salix spp.) relies on the activity of the shoot-producing meristems found on the coppice stool. However, the regulation of the activity of these meristems is poorly understood. In contrast, our knowledge of the mechanisms behind axillary meristem regulation in Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) has grown rapidly in the past few...
